What’s NEW for Hard Shell Harnesses – The RIDE ENGINE CARBON ELITE | 2020
Ride Engine began as a problem waiting for a solution. Santa Cruz surfer and tinkerer, Coleman Buckley, didn’t like the way his kitesurfing harness fit or functioned, and as he searched for something better, he realized what he wanted didn’t exist … so he set about creating it himself. With the Pacific Ocean as his playground, inspiration and testing grounds, Buckley pieced together his first prototypes in a makeshift workshop in his garage. A few years later, Ride Engine was on the map, and Coleman’s innovations were credited for changing an entire industry.
Today, Ride Engine remains true to its original mission- not to create for the sake of creating, but to find problems, innovate and provide solutions that help connect people with their passions. Our mission is to make your experience with the ocean, adventure and the great outdoors as friendly and fulfilling as possible.
At the pinnacle of hard-shell harness fit and performance lives the Elite Carbon Harness. Utilizing Ride Engine’s proprietary Shell Skin technology with Lumbar Lock shaping and memory foam support, it is constructed using 12K carbon which ensures a durable strong Armor Shell frame in a lightweight package.

Hi, I’m Sensi and I’m here in Coleman Buckley’s, the founder of RIDE ENGINE, container. He is the mastermind behind the original hard shell harness. Today I’m here to talk about the 2020 CARBON ELITE SERIES harness from Ride Engine. This is the most lightweight, durable and best fitting hard shell harness on the market today and I’m going to tell you why. First of all, we start with a 12 k super lightweight carbon shell skin construction on this backend piece. This means that it’s really, really durable, it’s a really stable and it’s really going to conform to the back parts of your body so when you have that forward pull from the kite the harness is not going to break and bend a lot on the sides. It’s a really durable construction base. Secondly is the lumbar lock ergonomic design. This is proprietary to Ride Engine and it’s what Coleman has been developing over years and years of testing people’s bodies. It has taken a lot of amalgamation of different body type data to come up with this lumber lock support system here.
This something that makes Ride Engine truly unique because we are the only harness company that uses this technology. You can see this little bump here? What this does is actually conforms to your back so it conforms to the lower lumbar spot in the back and it prevents any twisting of the harness or any riding up because it locks it into the lumbar portion of your back. This is really what it makes the whole harness really fit super, super well. From there we wrap that whole thing in a molded memory foam construction. So everything is all about comfort and durability here at Ride Engine. And what the memory foam does is just really provide that cushiness that we all love in a harness. It really contours to your body, it makes her really well-fitting piece. Secondly, we wrap everything in neoprene and the neoprene is a super great material because it doesn’t chafe on the body.
So I like to ride in a bikini as much as possible and the neoprene really prevents any chafing. Additionally, what prevents chafing is our velcro system. Our velcro points out away from the body, you’re not going to be tearing up of your wetsuit or getting any chafing on your body. On the sides of the harness, we use a dual webbing construction, and for this generation, we actually have a tighter weave on the webbing to prevent slipping on the side of the buckle. We also employ a stitch along the ends of our webbing here so you can easily grab on to with your hand and it also prevents slipping through all the buckles. On the opposite side, we have an easy entry system. Once you get your spreader bar on the front of the harness you can lock in really simply with this one little motion. Lastly, on the back of the harness, we have our handle past leash. This is removable if you are a windsurfer and you can take it off. On either side, we have a D ring so that you can put your leash wherever you want.
Ride Engine offers three different sized spreader bars for either Kiteboarding or Windsurfing. There is also a slider bar option for foiling and freestyle riding. This is yet another feature that makes the Elite Carbon one of the most custom fit harness you can get. Not only is a molded to your back and has all the comforts of padded memory foam and neoprene, but with the combination of the five sizes that it comes available for three-sport categories and three spreader bar sizes for each. You can really mix and match to create a harness that’s perfectly tailored to your body.
