Bigger is Better – Most Times : The new Manta 76 & Manta 84 Wings
Designing foils is a bit like shaping custom surfboards. It’s as much an art as it is a science, and even tiny variations in shape will make significant differences in performance. We’ve experimented with dozens of designs over the years- some worked wonderfully, some not so much. After much input from surfer’s worldwide we have updated the front wings on both our Futura Surf and SUP packages.
The Futura Surf Foil package is designed to make foiling user-friendly, approachable and fun in a wide range of wave conditions. This package delivers the best of both worlds- plenty of lift and early takeoff for catching even the smallest rolling waves AND enough speed and glide to cruise and carve without having to continuously pump to keep up. The magic is in the Futura’s Manta 76 wing, which has a large, low-aspect shape that is super stable and user-friendly. Its Inverted Gull Wing outline offers higher top-end speed and performance than many wings of similar size and surface area. For those in search of riding more powerful waves, towing in, and value tighter turns over-pumping range, the Bat Wing is basically the thruster short board of our wing lineup. It turns on a dime and performs at the highest levels when pumping isn’t a priority. It takes more speed/power to lift than our infinity wings, but once it’s up on foil its a force to be reckoned with.
The Ride Engine lineup features three of our all-time favorites, each with distinct performance characteristics and all completely compatible with our modular Futura foil system.
Manta 76:
The wing featured on our updated Futura Surf Foil package, the Manta 76 is designed to make surf foiling approachable and fun in the tiny to medium size waves most foilers are hunting. Its shape and surface area provides the stability and lift that make it great for learning, progression and tapping into the smallest waves, while its unique inverted gull wing shape makes it surprisingly fast and agile for a wing of its size.
- High lift, stable, early takeoff
- Inverted gull wing shape gives great lift but also better top end performance than wings of a similar size
- New carbon composite construction- lighter, more range and more efficient
- More surface area gives speed and glide to cruise and carve without having to continuously pump
- Safe-T winglets help prevent injury
Manta 84:
Designed for SUP foiling and low-speed flat water pumping, the Manta 84 wing has the most surface area in the line. The 84 provides the lift needed to get larger, heavier paddleboards up and cruising on small waves and rolling swells. It’s large wingspan and relatively flat profile give it a super stable, floaty feel, while its inverted gull wing shape allows for cruising (on waves) at faster speeds without having to pump as much as other large-format wings require. When it comes to flat water, the Manta 84 is the best option for dock starting and pumping over long distances. Leg day just got a whole lot more exciting.
- Unique Big Wing design for Maximum lift and stability
- Inverted gull wing shape gives great lift but also better top end performance than wings of a similar size
- XL surface area optimal for flatwater pumping
- New carbon composite construction- durability, more range and more efficient
- Safe-T winglets help prevent injury
Bat Wing 65:
The Bat Wing’s distinctive delta shape gives it dynamic side-to-side turning and agility that feels a bit like a quad-fin shortboard on the glassiest day you’ve ever surfed. This is a lively wing that takes a little getting used to (compared to a flatter, more stable profile), but once you get the hang of how playful you can be with it, you’ll never look back.
- High surface area, low aspect wing has tons of lift and range for tiny to head-high waves
- Arc “Bat Wing” shape gives it dynamic, self-centering carving and turning
- New carbon composite construction- lighter, more range and more efficient
- Safe-T winglets help prevent injury
